Can Dogs Eat Peaches? Yes, Your Dog Will Love this Juicy Treat! Plus 3 Healthy Recipes Your Dog Will Wag Her Tail for Every Time!

Peaches are a featured ingredient in Yitto Paws granola bites!

If you’ve ever wondered ‘can dogs eat peaches?’ you’re in luck! Peaches made our Complete List of the Best Fruits Dogs Can Eat. As we mentioned there, peaches can be shared with dogs for an extra boost of vitamins A and C, and fiber.

Peaches are a nutrient-dense fruit, filled with nearly 90% water! This means peaches can help hydrate your dogs, on top of providing them with the benefits of vitamins and minerals. This guide will answer some common questions around feeding dogs peaches!

First things first: Can dogs eat peaches?

Yes! Peaches are generally safe for dog consumption, as long as you remove the pit and cut the peach into bite-sized pieces. Dogs can eat both the skin and flesh of the peach, however, it is important to scrub the skin thoroughly.

As with any fruit, peaches are safe for dogs as a treat and in moderation, and should not be the primary component of a meal.

What are the benefits of feeding dogs peaches?

Peaches contain vitamins and minerals, including: Vitamins A, C, E, and K, niacin, folate, iron, choline, potassium, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, zinc, and copper. These vitamins and minerals have the ability to fight infection, protect against free radicals, reduce risk of certain diseases, and more.

Like humans, dogs benefit from eating a colorful diet! Peaches get their vibrant pinkish-orange from the antioxidant beta-carotene. Beta-carotene is a great addition to healthy dog diets because it promotes the production of vitamin A, which supports healthy vision and immune system function.

4 Precautions When Feeding Dogs Peaches

  1. Peaches were ranked #8 on the Environmental Working Group (EWG) Dirty Dozen for 2021! In a similar study by Harvard University, peaches were given a high pesticide residue score. The safest choice when shopping for peaches is organic and it is even better if you can source local fruit!
  2. Before feeding your dogs peaches, be sure to remove the stem, leaves, and pit. Each of those parts of the peach contain cyanide, and will be toxic to dogs even in a small amount. Not to mention, the pit is a choking hazard! Only feed your dog the soft peach flesh.
  3. Peaches contain natural sugar, which means they should be shared with your dog only in moderation
  4. Do not feed your dog preserved or canned peaches because these often contain syrup and artificial sweeteners. Peach cups (like those marketed by Dole and DelMonte) oftentimes are filled with added sugars and/or artificial sweeteners, and some brands may even contain grape juice, which is very toxic for dogs.

What are the best ways to feed dogs peaches?

We’ve answered the question of ‘can dogs eat peaches?’ Now, it’s time to consider how can dogs eat peaches.

First, the best time to buy peaches is in the summer, typically May through September. You can find peaches in the grocery store during the off-season, but these will have traveled a very long way. During fall, winter, and early spring, the best option may be organic frozen peach chunks, which you can thaw or use to make frozen dog treats.

Of course, the easiest (and our favorite) way to give peaches to your dogs year round is with Yitto Paws Peach Granola bites! Made in the USA from 5 simple ingredients, our high fiber, organic, human grade treats are literally the Best Way to Treat Your Dog!
